Objectives

 

Aims

The overall aims of the English Language Education curriculum are to: 

  • provide every student of English with further opportunities for extending their knowledge and experience of the cultures of other people as well as opportunities for personal and intellectual development, further studies, pleasure and work in the English medium; and 
  • enable every student to prepare for the changing socio-economic demands resulting from advances in information technology; these demands include the interpretation, use and production of materials for pleasure, study and work in the English medium.

 

Subject Target

The subject target of English Language is for students to develop an ever-improving capability to use English:

  • to think and communicate; 
  • to acquire, develop and apply knowledge; and 
  • to respond and give expression to experience;

and within these contexts, to develop and apply an ever-increasing understanding of how language is organised, used and learnt.

 

Features

1.    Space Town Literacy Programme (P.1 - P.3)

The school has joined the Space Town Literacy Programme and adopted it in P.1 - P.3.

 

Objectives

  • To enhance students' reading and writing ability through the programmes.
  • To nurture students' reading habits.
  • To encourage students to become life-long learners.

 

The Implementation of the Programme

Students will attend some of the English lessons in English Wonderland.
The English teachers will co-teach with the Native-speaking English Teacher in these lessons.
Students will learn English through reading different interesting stories.
Students' learning will be supported by mix-ability grouping and leveled worksheets.
Co-operative learning opportunities will be provided and encouraged in both reading and writing.

 

Assessment

A variety of formative assessments will be done in the lessons such as worksheets, group work, games and self-evaluations.

 

Evaluation

Reviewing the effectiveness of the lessons and the activities through post-tests and post-interviews.

 
2.    Primary 1-3 Head Programme

Objectives

To enable students to achieve certain learning goals in real contexts and authentic settings.

 

The Implementation of the Programme

English Fun Time is one of the component of the curriculum included in Primary 1-3 HEAD Programme.
Two lessons are allocated for English Fun Time every week.
Primary 1-3 English teachers will co-teach with the NET or ELTA in the lessons.
Theme-based tasks are designed for students to apply their knowledge and skills authentically.

 

Evaluation

Portfolios are being used to record and assess the learning progress of the students and given to the parents by the end of the academic year.

 
3.    Values Education

Objectives

To nurture students’ awareness of proper values and attitudes and to apply them in their daily life situation and learning

Implementation of Values Education

To align with the twelve priority values, relevant themes in textbook units are identified and selected in order to design suitable learning materials and activities that integrate cognitive, emotional, and practical aspects of learning

 
4.    Digital Education

Objectives

To create personalized and interactive learning experiences for students

 

Implementation of Digital Education

  • Teachers integrate information literacy into the English curriculum to cultivate students’ ability and attitude to use information effectively and ethically. 
  • Teachers make use of different e-learning resources, such as Wordwall and Wayground,  to design intelligent teaching material to facilitate students’ learning
  • To utilize the artificial intelligence learning systems, such as Teams-Reading Progress and LingoTask, to enhance student learning through personalised feedback
