Yuen Long Lutheran Secondary School

 

Choir

The school choir consists of S1-5 students who are passionate in singing. They practice regularly after school every week. Under the conductor’s supervision, choir members actively learn and practice on their singing skills. They also join various public competitions and often perform in different occasions so as to gain valuable experiences.

A Cappella Team 《HOA》

The A Cappella Team 《HOA》was formed two years ago. It consists of six current S4-5 students who have great enthusiasm in A Cappella. Apart from the regular practice every week, they often actively participate in public competitions and performances which were very well received by the audience.

Hand Chime Team

The Hand Chime Team members enjoy playing hand chimes very much. Every year the team joins different contests and wins various awards. This year there is a hand bell class which provides opportunities for members to play music together and they will discover more fun in it.

Introduction:

1. 《Jingle Bells》 is one of the best-known and familiar Christmas carols in the world. Originally, it is not a Christmas carol but a Thanksgiving song. Jingle Bells was composed in 1857 by James Rhode Pierpont, an American who wrote this song for his father's Sunday School class Thanksgiving Day performance. As the song has delightful melody, it became a popular classic Christmas carol.

2. 《The Letter》 was composed by a Japanese singer Angela Aki, who wrote the song to encourage the “future us” to hold on the belief in ourselves. As this song is so meaningful that it becomes very popular in Japan, especially to be performed in Japanese school graduation ceremony. This song has been adapted in different versions for chorus, ensemble, piano and hand bell performances. Hong Kong pop singer Sherman Chung Tsu Man also adapted this song into Chinese lyrics.

3. 《Try Everything》is a song recorded by Colombian singer Shakira for the 2016 worldwide Walt Disney Animation Studios film Zootopia. HOA member Yam Nick Ho modified it for cappella. The rhythm of the song is strong while the lyrics conveys valuable encouraging message that life is full of difficulties, but press on and never give up.

4. 《Recipe For A Song》 is a song composed by the American composer Don Besig. The melody is lively and cheerful. The lyrics brings out a message that singing can bring happiness to people and eventually make the world better and brighter.
